In drug discovery, the term chemical instability can refer to a variety of mechanisms.
These include solid-state stability, solution-state stability including pH-dependence, oxidative stability and photostability. For a compound to become a successful drug, chemical stability is mandatory. A compound that is intrinsically unstable will be very difficult to assess in any In vitro and In vivo assay. It may also be challenging to find a suitable formulation with a long enough shelf life. Therefore, an early assessment of compound stability in both aqueous and organic environments, is highly recommended. Additionally, we offer chemical stability to the nucleophile glutathione in buffer. Significant reaction with glutathione is an early warning sign of (unwanted) electrophilic reactivity in the parent molecule.
